Hi all! Welcome to the Core! I’m so excited to get to know you and take part in all that you will learn and accomplish through this journey. The breadth of material that you will experience in A-side and B-side is what made me fall in love with this major, as it allowed me to understand the human experience in new and exciting ways. My concentration was Cross-Cultural Studies in Chronic Diseases (something I only could have studied as a HumBio major!) – I was specifically interested in cancer, and how understanding, developing, and treating cancer differed across cultures. HumBio allowed me to take all sorts of cool classes, from cancer epidemiology to cross-cultural medicine, as well as get involved in clinical research with a pediatric oncologist, studying iron overload in survivors of pediatric stem cell transplants, which eventually became the topic of my honors thesis. While at Stanford, I also staffed in Burbank and Casa Italiana, worked as a Student Advisor for HumBio, and was an outreach coordinator for Dance Marathon. When I’m not working, I love to hike, listen to the Hamilton soundtrack, watch Gilmore Girls and NBA games, and eat really good food. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you – get ready for an amazing year!
