Hey everyone! I’m David, and I’m pumped to be one of your SAs this year! I grew up in Long Beach, CA, where I developed my interest in issues impacting low-income communities including health, educational, and socioeconomic inequities. Prior to Stanford, I felt that I lacked the academic grounding to engage in conversations surrounding these issues and the resources to effect change. HumBio changed that by allowing me to take courses in health policy, community health, and bioethics, which ultimately culminated in my A/C: Community Health and Health Policy. In addition, HumBio gave me opportunities to pursue my interests in teaching, mentorship, and advancing educational equity. This fall, I will be TAing HUMBIO 120: Intro to U.S. Health Policy. Furthermore, for my HumBio internship, I spent two summers mentoring and engaging with low-income, underrepresented high schoolers in my role as a counselor for the Stanford Medical Youth Science Program (SMYSP). Outside of HumBio, I also RA in Crothers, volunteer with Cardinal Free Clinics, mentor students through Phoenix Scholars, and plan events with Cardinal Nights. In my free time, I enjoy running (while listening to ‘Lemonade’), binge-watching ‘Friends’ on Netflix, seeing musicals, and doordashing boba. Come chat with me in the SA office! I can’t wait to see where your HumBio journey takes you!
