Hey everyone! My name is Sofia, and I’m so happy to be one of your HumBio SA’s this year. I’m a senior from Hewlett, NY and Im concentrating in Global Public Health and Anatomy, and I’m also completing a Coterm in Epidemiology and Clinical Research. I’m very passionate about global health and immigrant health advocacy, an interest that’s rooted in being a daughter of two immigrant parents, from Colombia and Ecuador. This past summer I went to Oaxaca on the BOSP Community Health in Oaxaca trip, and last summer I went to Cape Town through BOSP and I learned a lot about the healthcare system in both Oaxaca and Cape Town, and hope to share what I learned there with my classmates and the other communities that I belong to on campus! I hope to continue immersing myself in learning experiences that can enrich my knowledge of global health and all of its intersections, so that as a future doctor, I can provide the most culturally competent care possible for patients.

Outside of HumBio, I am very excited to be one of the Directors of my acapella group, Stanford Talisman, and continue as the Co-Vice President of the Global Health Student Council! I also am excited to continue as a Spanish Interpreter for Cardinal Free Clinics, and will continue working on recruitment for Stanford Habla! I’m so excited to meet all of you and learn about your interests!
