Join Human Biology in congratulating six recipients of Haas Center for Public Service fellowships.
Priscilla Acuna Mena will serve as a Tom Ford Fellow in Philanthropy, and be matched with a senior mentor at a host foundation to gain experience in philanthropy by working full-time for 11 months. The Tom Ford Fellowship in Philanthropy was created in 2001 to provide young professionals with intensive, mentored experiences in domestic foundations in order to educate Stanford graduates about the role of philanthropy in society and encourage them to enter the field. The fellowship is made possible by the generous support of Susan Ford Dorsey's Sand Hill Foundation and Philanthropic Ventures Foundation.
Melissa Eidman, and Ali Murat Gali will invest their talent, energy and training in public service as John Gardner Public Service Fellows, by working full-time for 10 months with a government or nonprofit agency in the continental United States. They will be matched with a mentor who will guide their professional growth and provide opportunities within an organization that are normally not available to recent graduates.
Megan Alexander, and Andrea Meislin will serve as Donald Kennedy Public Service Fellows to develop and implement innovative service projects over the summer. The fellowship provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to design and implement summer service projects resulting in tangible deliverables used to sustain service to a community. Fellows work to alleviate some of society’s most pressing concerns across the United States and in other countries.
Katherine Bick, Dru Brenner, and Julia Vazquez will serve as Stanford Public Interest Network (SPIN) Fellows working for a public interest organization in California or Washinton D.C.. Matched with an alumni mentor, they will work full-time for 10-12 months as part of a professional development cohort. SPIN aims to recruit talented students to work in public service, engage alumni working in and committed to public service, and assist public interest organizations in finding qualified staff.
